Hailed as "...a real musical feast" (Richard Springer, Roland Park 2023) and "actual musicians ... not just a bunch of glazed donuts" (Julius Orange, Baltimore Music Critic 2023), HEXTET is an exciting new ensemble based out of Baltimore, Maryland. Known for their melodic interpretations and bravura phrasing, HEXTET was formed at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University in the summer of 2023. Equally at home in a wide range of genres from classical to folk, HEXTET continues to captivate audiences with dazzling virtuosity and dynamic programming. Composed of violinists Sangwoo Kim and Josephine Kim, violists Amelia Eckloff and Kenneth Fujii, and cellists Tim Beccue and Alex Wu, HEXTET represents a diverse range of mostly young musicians from multiple continents. The group has worked with many illustrious artists, being primarily coached by Maria Lambros and Michael Kannen.

Sangwoo Kim - Violin

Violinist Sangwoo Kim has studied and performed extensively around the world and across a broad range of genres. Whether it be playing with the Seoul Philharmonic or recording movie soundtracks such as the Academy Award winning film "Parasite", Sangwoo is equally at home, on the stage, or in the recording studio. He has also worked in many Broadway musicals, even being cast in the Korean premier of the Paula Vogel play, "Indecent". A graduate of Indiana University and the Korea National University of the Arts, Sangwoo is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Peabody under Professor Judith Ingolfsson.

Josephine Kim - Violin

Josephine Kim is a violinist currently honing her craft at Peabody studying with renowned soloist Professor Vadim Gluzman. Born into a family of musicians, she began her musical journey at an early age and quickly rose to prominence. Her performances are characterized by a deep emotional connection with the music, captivating audiences with her heartfelt interpretations. Josephine continues to refine her skills and broaden her musical horizons with her dedication, discipline, and passion for classical music.

Amelia Eckloff - Viola

Amelia Eckloff is a violist from Fairfax, Virginia currently pursuing her masters of music in viola performance at Peabody under the tutelage of Professor Victoria Chiang. Amelia graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2022 where she studied with Masumi Rostad. Amelia regularly performs with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and has attended the Castleman Quartet Program, the Chautauqua Institution, and the National Orchestral Institute. Amelia previously studied with retired National Symphony Orchestra violist, Ramon Scavelli, and has also worked with violists such as George Taylor, Choong-Jin Chang, Phillip Ying, Joan DerHovsepian, and Karen Ritscher.

Kenneth Fujii - Viola

An avid chamber musician, American violist Kenneth Fujii has performed with eminent artists such as Jinjoo Cho, Steven Banks, Richie Hawley, members of the Emerson, Cavani, and Pacifica string quartets, as well as members of the Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, and Philadelphia Orchestras. During his summers, Kenneth has attended Music Academy of the West, Moritzburg Festival, Encore Chamber Music Institute, Kent Blossom Music Festival, and more. While a fellow at Music Academy of the West, he was chosen by the Takács Quartet to participate in the String Quartet Seminar under their tutelage. Kenneth is currently studying at the Peabody Conservatory with Victoria Chiang. He received his undergraduate from the Cleveland Institute of Music studying under Lynne Ramsey. His primary chamber music mentors are the Takács and Cavani String Quartets. Kenneth currently plays a viola made for him in 2022 by Gabrielle Kundert.

Tim Beccue - Cello

Tim Beccue, a California native, has studied cello under renowned teachers such as Andrew Cook, Trevor Handy, Ben Hong, and currently Amit Peled. He received his Bachelor of Science in physics from Westmont College and is currently completing his Master's in cello performance at the Peabody Institute. An alumnus of the American Youth Symphony, he has performed as a featured soloist with the Westmont Orchestra and the West Coast Symphony. Tim is passionate about chamber music, and loves nothing more than playing great music with wonderful people. In addition to performances of classical music, Tim is bassist in the local jazz quartet "The Dumpster Cats" and works with robotic telescopes at Las Cumbres Observatory.

Alex Wu - Cello

Cellist Alex Wu is a graduate of Penn State University and currently studies at Peabody with Professor Alan Stepansky. A recipient of the Brewster Endowment for music, he performs with Symphony in C and has previously served positions in the New York String Orchestra Seminar and the National Youth Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he has had recent appearances at the Caramoor International Music Festival, Mount Gretna Music Festival, and the Manchester Music Festival. He serves on the faculty of the International School of Music and is a guest teaching artist at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
